about

Lyrically, this song explores chasing your own meaning and identity in a bleak and ever-changing world. A fight between nihilism and humanism.

The germ of the idea for the lyrics came from thinking about the life my parents and grandparents all lived so that I'd end up where I am. My grandma survived WW2 in Berlin, and then lived through post-war Soviet East Berlin in an orphanage. I grew up in quiet suburban Adelaide, playing footy and collecting pokemon cards and generally not experiencing war and poverty and hopelessness. Of course, that's a good thing, but it also makes me feel like I've never worked a damn day in my life. - Isaac

lyrics

Strange beastie
Repeating images until they lose meaning
A boring odyssey
We're a proud ship sinking

I'd like to live like Sisyphus
And maybe at the end of us
My stone will be still
At the bottom of the hill
I'd like to live like Sisyphus
And maybe at the end of us
My stone will be worn down
A pebble on the ground

Going where
A million people have been before
We've broken
We've broken down the final door
And we let
The madness in
Don't have too much fun
In this downward spin

I'd like to live like Sisyphus
And maybe at the end of us
My stone will be still
At the bottom of the hill
I'd like to live like Sisyphus
And maybe at the end of us
My stone will be worn down
A pebble on the ground

Pebble on the ground
Pebble on the ground
Pebble on the ground
Pebble on the ground

Strange beastie
Strange beastie
Strange beastie
Strange beastie

I'd like to live like Sisyphus
And maybe at the end of us
My stone will be still
At the bottom of the hill
I'd like to live like Sisyphus
And maybe at the end of us
My stone will be worn down
A pebble on the ground

about

House in the Tall Grass Adelaide, Australia

Founded in the deep, dark valley of December 2020, House in the Tall Grass is the project of four old friends who needed a louder, stranger and angrier outlet in their range of bands. We're writing music for people who feel the world to be strange and proud and blue-grey and distant, but who are righteously angry and firey enough to get up and dance about it. ... more
